Maui luthier Peter Lieberman built this sweet little koa travel guitar sometime in the 80’s. Only 32″ long, it features some of the most stunning flamed koa I have ever seen and plays like a dream. Perfect for ki ho`alu ~ Hawaiian slack key guitar!
Island Strings ukuleles show up from time to time, but this is the only one of Peter’s guitars I’ve seen. Here’s what the Ukulele Resource Center has to say about him:
“Peter Lieberman formed Maui Music when the only “k” brand was Kamaka. On December 27 2000 a fire burned down his factory forcing him to close down. He was soon back to building, but instead of running another crew and factory production, he decided to be a one man custom shop and focus on the highest quality. Both the “pre-fire” Maui Music and Peter’s custom ukes are among the most loved Hawaiian instruments in the world.”
- Solid flamed koa top, back & sides
- Koa neck with koa position markers, inlaid koa headstock
- Nylon strings. Because of the short scale, it sounds best tuned up to “G”
- Florentine cutaway
- Dimensions: 32″ long X 33/4” deep. Upper bout = 75/8; Lower bout 97/8“
- With nice black fiberboard case.
